Rules & Guidelines

How to Enter

  • Fill out the International Safety Media Awards competition application. This form is available by clicking ENTRY FORM or we can be email it to you.
  • Review the category list to decide where your media should compete. Make sure you credit the members of your creative team, so that they will be recognized properly in press releases and winner publications.
  • Submission of entries acknowledges the right of the International Safety Media Awards partners to use them for publication, exhibition and marketing of the International Safety Media Awards and other educational programs. By submitting an entry you accept responsibility for securing all appropriate media releases.

Deadline

Entries must be received by March 13, 2012 5pm Alaska Standard Time (GMT +09). Your entry may be:

  • Submitted online --Click here for the ENTRY FORM and instructions for submitting media.
  • Mailed or hand delivered to- Alaska Injury Prevention Center, 3701 E. Tudor, Suite 105, Anchorage, AK, USA 99507
  • All entries must be received by the deadline. There will be no exceptions. All entries must follow guidelines outlined in this guide. There is no entry fee for this competition.

Categories

Non-English Language Submissions

Entries that are created in a language other than English should include a translation in English. Translations should be attached to the ENTRY FORM. Video entries created in a language other than English should include a translation of any spoken language in the form of English subtitles or spoken English voice-over. A written translation is not preferred, but will be accepted. Audio entries created in a language other than English should include a translation of any spoken language. Translations should be attached to the ENTRY FORM.

Judging Procedures

Judging will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines outlined in this document by International Safety Media Awards judges. Decisions of judges including eligibility, qualifications and appropriate category placement are final.

Scoring Rubric

  • Clarity - A clear message is communicated by the entry.
  • Attention Grabbing - Media is likely to attract the target audience's attention.
  • Persuasive - Media is likely to persuade the targeted audience to act.
  • Evaluation - Judges will consider the methodology as well as the outcomes of the evaluation.

Rules

  • By entering the competition, the entrant warrants that an entry is an original work created by the entrant and that the use or reproduction of the entry by the sponsors will not infringe the copyright or any other intellectual property of any third party.
  • You may enter in as many different media categories, as you like. However, if multiple pieces are entered in both individual categories and in the Campaign category, and the Campaign entry places 1st, 2nd or 3rd, the individual pieces will be ineligible to win in the individual categories.
  • Audio or ultra short film entries must be three minutes or less in length.
  • Media submissions must be received no later than 5:00 PM (Alaska Standard Time, GMT +09) March 13, 2012.
  • By submitting an entry, the contestant(s) give The International Safety Media Awards and partners the right to publish the ad in part or in whole in any medium.
  • Copyright of the entry will remain with the entrant.
  • If the media submitted was evaluated, then please include a description of the evaluation, including the methodology used and the outcomes observed, in the appropriate space on the ENTRY FORM. Because one of the goals of the ISMA Contest is to share knowledge the value of media efforts as shown through evaluations, this information will be included in the scoring process.
  • Entries must follow format guidelines listed below:
    1. Print Category ideas include (but are not limited to) a magazine or newspaper advertisement, a poster, a brochure, photography, CD cover, a painting, etc. Print entries can be submitted as a PDF document online, attached to the ENTRY FORM. If an online submission is not possible, a hard copy of the entry or an electronic version in a .pdf or .jpg format on a CD may be mailed to the Alaska Injury Prevention Center. Please understand that these may not be returned. Affix a copy of the ENTRY FORM to the back of the entry.
    2. Video Category ideas include (but are not limited to) TV commercials, music videos, etc. Short videos are 3 - 30 minutes and Ultra-short videos are less than 3 minutes It is best if videos are submitted online via a link to YouTube. For more information on how to submit a video via YouTube click here. If your video is too large or long to upload to YouTube, please mail it on a DVD, along with a copy of your ENTRY FORM .
    3. Audio Category ideas include (but are not limited to) Public Service Announcements (PSA), songs, radio advertisements, sound tracks, etc. Audio entries may should be submitted online attached to the ENTRY FORM. If necessary, audio submissions may be mailed to the Alaska Injury Prevention Center on a CD in either Quicktime or MP3 format. See the ENTRY FORM for mailing instructions.
    4. Web/Online Category includes but is not limited to: website, Social Media platforms (eg, Facebook, Twitter, SMS text, etc.), web banners, online video games, blogs, etc. To enter this category, please provide the title, and a link to the media entry on the ENTRY FORM .
    5. Campaign Category includes all of the multiple media elements that are designed to support a comprehensive safety campaign. Entries can be submitted in both the individual categories above (audio, new media, video and print) and they can be grouped together as one campaign entry. However, if a Campaign entry places 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the Campaign Category, the corresponding individual entries will not be eligible to win in the individual categories. To enter the campaign category, please provide the name for your campaign as well as a list of all of the individual media components featured in the campaign. For example, if you have a "No Texting and Driving" campaign that includes a Facebook page, a website, poster and a TV PSA, you may provide links to the Facebook page and website, a YouTube link to the TV PSA, and include a pdf of the poster as an attachment with the ENTRY FORM.
